College-Industry Conference

The College-Industry Conference of the Foundry Educational Foundation (FEF) took place in Chicago at the Drake Hotel 20-21st of November. Five student delegates from MSU were invited to attend – Shannon Lisenbee, Kimberly Leggett, Ray Pelanne, Brett Williams and Chris Young. All are members of the MSU American Foundry Society (AFS) Student Chapter, which is chaired by Lisenbee. Ms. Leggett, Mr. Pelanne and Mr. Young are also officers of the Chapter.

Dr. John Berry is the faculty advisor to the AFS student section. Professor Berry received a special honor during the E.C. Hoenicke Memorial Luncheon at the Conference, where he was awarded the FEF/AFS Distinguished Professor Award for 2008. He was previously the recipient of several AFS honors: The Distinguished Service Award of Division One (1992), the Aluminum Division Scientific Award (1986), and twice the Silver Anniversary Award of the AFS Aluminum Division (1995 and 2002). In 2004 Berry was made a Fellow of the UK’s Institute of Cast Metals Engineers (ICME) and a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in 2008. He was the first FEF Key Professor at Georgia Tech during his tenure there (1974-1986), a strong supporter since that time, both at University of Alabama (1986-1994) and here at MSU, where he is MSU’s first FEF Key Professor. He joined MSU in 1995.

During the Tuesday December 2nd meeting of MSU’s AFS student section, Berry will present a number of FEF scholarship awards to students graduating this semester who have worked on the refurbishment of ME’s Edwards Building, which will house pilot scale casting and melting facilities when complete.
