ME freshman student participated in the Greenpower Race held in the UK

Matthew Tidwell, a Mechanical Engineering freshman, is a member of Team USA, an electric race car team from the Huntsville Center for Technology (HTC) in Huntsville, AL. He has been a part of this team since his junior year in high school. He helped design and build the car and competed in the Greenpower Race held at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, United Kingdom.
The Greenpower Race was established in 1999 to inspire students to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Greenpower Ltd. did this by challenging teams to design, build, and race electric vehicles. Team USA was the only team from the United States to be invited to compete in this event. All teams were given the same 12V batteries and the same electric motor, and from there teams can design within safety regulations. On October 11, 2014, the team competed in their second finals race, which consisted of two 90-minute races, where they finished 14th and 17th out of 74 cars.
