MSU SAE participates in annual Competition

September 1, 2010

Mississippi State University’s Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) student chapter participates in an annual competition on the design and manufacturing of a Formula SAE car, that is business-viable. A team of engineering students, mostly mechanical, is assembled early in the year for the competition. This year’s competition took place in Michigan (May 12 – 15) in the international speedway.

Mississippi State received a ranking of 56 (out of 120 teams registered for the competition. This is a 15 point advancement as compared with its ranking a year ago.

The team was certainly hoping for better, but recognizing that it was a one-year project, it is an improvement to be proud of. There is certainly room to do better in 2011.

Thanks to a hard working team and leadership (Ryan Poe). Also thanks to Mr. Rowland, Mr. Latham, Dr. Jones, Dr. Horstemeyer and all the support from the department, college and university. Our appreciation is for the great support of Mr. Bickham.
