Research Summary

< Cost Effective Solar Energy Applications >

Research interest is in the following general areas:

  • Solar/Renewable energy/Fuel Cell applications
  • Mathematical modeling of Advanced Energy Systems including Thermal Regenerators (such as Packed Bed Storage Systems utilizing Phase-Change Materials), Heat and Mass Transfer Regenerators (such as Desiccant Dehumidifiers, Crop Dryers).
  • Formulations for the Thermodynamic Properties of Substances and Development of Algorithms for use in Computer Property Codes.
  • Computer-Aided Thermodynamic Analysis and Evaluation of Thermal Systems.
  • Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer Applications in Systems Design and Analysis.
  • Piping networks system design.

  • Previous research in the area of modeling of high-temperature packed bed thermal storage systems included participation as Principal Investigator in a USDOE-sponsored research contract (worth a little over $600,000). The research covered mathematical modeling and experimental testing of a high-temperature thermal energy storage system utilizing phase-change materials. Research on characterization of a pebble bed heater was also carried out at the NASA John C. Stennis Space Center.

Dr. Adebiyi worked with the Central Electricity Research Laboratory (CERL) in England and the Shell Petroleum Company in Nigeria. He has a unique and international perspective on some of the research problems of interest to the power generation and the oil industries. He is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the British Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He served two terms as Associate Technical Editor (Energy Storage) for the ASME Journal of Solar Energy Engineering. He has authored/co-authored three books on Thermodynamics, several journal articles, conference papers and presentations.
