2009 ME Workshops
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Mississippi State University

The Mississippi State University Department of Mechanical Engineering will be holding a series of U.S. Department of Energy training workshops this fall.

The first of these training sessions, to be held on October 5-6, 2009, is titled Advanced Management of Compressed Air Systems. This advanced course in compressed air system management teaches you to develop a system profile and address point-of-use issues, including determining actual air quality requirements, investigating and reducing highest point-of-use pressure requirements, and addressing high-volume intermittent applications. In addition, you will learn how to implement a compressed air system maintenance program, determine different compressor control strategies, align the supply-side to demand-side operation, and gain an understanding of the value of heat recovery. This course is a pre-requisite for the AIRMaster+ Qualification training to be held at Mississippi State University on December 15-18, 2009. This workshop is open to individuals who have taken Advanced Management of Compressed Air Systems and are interested in taking a rigorous qualifying exam. The workshop presents the software methodology, describes how to collect field data, demonstrates how to enter data, and discusses how to interpret the results. The third course to be offered this fall is titled Energy Savings Practices for the Chemical Industry and will be held on November 5th, 2009 in Raleigh, NC. This workshop covers methods to improve overall efficiency of operation at industrial chemical facilities. This one day workshop outlines Department of Energy developed software tools for improving efficiency of steam systems, compressed air systems, and pumping systems. This workshop is designed for energy managers and engineers who have steam, compressed air, or pump system responsibilities in industrial facilities.
