Lei Chen received funding from NSF

Congratulations to Dr. Lei Chen, Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering, who received $204,696 from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI) to conduct research on “Tuning Properties of Bi-Continuous Piezoelectric Composites via Additive Manufacturing.”

Chen joined the ME department in August 2015 and has already received several competitive external funding awards to support his research.  In addition, Dr. Chen received the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award in 2017 and was selected to receive the Mechanical Engineering Outstanding Junior Faculty Research Award in  2016.

Prior to working at MSU, Chen was a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Pennsylvania State University and a research fellow at Southampton University in the United Kingdom.  Chen obtained his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2012.
