To celebrate Research Week, the Department of Mechanical Engineering hosted a Research Showcase in front of Carpenter Hall on Wednesday, April 12.

The event featured five research organizations that shared their cutting-edge research with anyone who shared an interest. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the latest research and innovation being conducted in the Mechanical Engineering Department from faculty members and graduate students.

The research featured included wire arc additive manufacturing from the Computational Mechanics and Materials Laboratory; energy assessments for manufacturing and commercial needs from the Industrial Assessment Center; and hydrogen injection, renewable energy, and computational fluid dynamics from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems.

Many of the graduate students said they believe the research showcased helps to connect the classroom and the professional world. Mohamed En-Nali, a first-year Ph.D. student, shared his gratitude for participating in computational fluid dynamic research since he has begun to make impacts he can look back on.

“20 years from now when the technology goes up, I want to just be able to say that I was working on its improvement 20 years ago,” En-Nali said.

KyungWon Lee, a second-year graduate student conducting research on hydrogen injection, was thankful for his participation in the showcase since it allowed him to connect with attendees and build his confidence.

“It was a great opportunity to present my knowledge to everybody. I can prepare my mind with professional knowledge by preparing this and gaining some confidence through this presentation,” Lee said.

The Research Showcase invited the public to learn about the exciting research that takes place in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Ultimately, it helped facilitate connections between students, faculty, industry partners, and other researchers, and insight into the success of Mississippi State University research.
