Steele to serve as interim Provost

Dr. Gleen Steele to serve as interim Provost and Vice President for Academic affairs, beginning January 1, 2010. Dr. Steele has been a member of the MSU faculty for 30 years. He is a Giles Distinguished Professor, the Bobby Shackouls Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and co-director of the Energy Institute, which includes the Sustainable Energy Research Center and the Institute for Clean Energy Technology. He was head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 1990 to 2008 and has been the principal or co-principal investigator on more than 30 research contracts totaling $36 million. He is the author of two books and many journal articles and papers and a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Dr. Steele has served as interim vice president for Research and Economic Development since May of this year.
