Dr. Yucheng Liu visited the School of Mechanical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) on June 4th.   During his visit, Dr. Liu gave a seminar to SJTU faculty and graduate students sharing his recent research progress on multiscale modeling and simulation of high velocity penetration between nickel projectile and copper plate.

He also meet with the Professor Lifeng Xi, Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Quyuan Ye, retired Deputy President of SJTU, and other administrators.  Dean Xi introduced the current status and his vision of the school. Particularly, the Dean and the Director of International Collaboration Office, Cathy Huang, shared with Dr. Liu the current collaborative academic and research programs between SJTU and other US universities and discussed potential collaboration opportunities with MSU.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranks No. 3 among all Chinese universities (only next to Tsinghua University and Peking University). However, the School of Mechanical Engineering is clearly No. 1 in China, which has over 400 faculty, about 3000 students and its annual research expenditure is 450 Million RMB (about 75 Million US dollars), which takes up almost 20% of the overall research expenditure of SJTU.
