FACULTY POSITION IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. It is anticipated that the initial appointments will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor, although a higher rank may be considered for candidates with exceptional background and experience.

Mechanical Design
Applicants should have teaching and research interests in the general area of mechanical design. It is expected that the successful candidate will have the desire and ability to teach courses at the undergraduate level, including a capstone course with project activity, as well as courses at the graduate level, related to the candidate’s areas of research interest. A background in finite element analysis and numerical methods for integration in the design courses is desired. The Mechanical Engineering department has a high research activity in materials behavior, manufacturing processes and process modeling, and computational and solid mechanics. Several faculty members are affiliated with College Centers (the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) and the Raspet Flight Research Laboratory (RFRL)) as well as University Centers (the High Performance Computing Collaboratory and the Institute for Imaging & Analytical Technologies. The candidate is expected to develop a strong collaboration with departmental faculty, perform multidisciplinary research, and develop a funded research program.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of eight academic departments in the Bagley College of Engineering. The Department offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in mechanical engineering, as well as graduate studies leading to MS and PhD degrees. The Department has approximately 600 undergraduates, 75 graduate students, and 18 tenure-track faculty members. Annual research expenditures for the department are approximately 11 million dollars. Faculty members play a vital role in several college and university research centers (http://www.me.msstate.edu/) and have developed strong research programs in the areas of computational engineering, energy systems design, materials science and engineering, manufacturing processing, and solid mechanics.
An earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely-aligned field (ABD’s will be considered) is required. Candidates are expected to have demonstrated the ability to conduct research at the highest level, and to have a record of, or the promise for, outstanding teaching and supervision of students. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, names and contact information for at least three professional references, and a statement (limited to three pages) that describes research and educational interests to mechanical_search@me.msstate.edu (Mechanical Design Position). Application review will begin October 1, 2012, and will continue until the position is filled. Candidates must complete the Personal Data Information form on-line at www.jobs.msstate.edu. MSU is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. To obtain more information contact mechanical_search@me.msstate.edu
